4. The Client Uploads

Goal: open the magic link yourself to experience the portal as Jordan Ellis, upload files against the checklist, and leave a comment.

Time: ~5 minutes

Steps

  1. Open the inbox you used for Jordan's email address and find the request email from Meridian Tax Advisors.

    Use a private window

Open the magic link in a private/incognito window or a different browser. The link signs you in as the client, and in the same browser that would replace your firm session.

  2. Click the magic link. The request opens immediately — as Jordan, you never create an account or set a password. You see the request title and description on a branded header, a Document Progress bar reading "0 of N documents completed (0%)", and one row per requested document with a status chip (Pending).

  3. Expand the first document row. Inside you find:

    • the Checklist your AI-built request included, so Jordan knows exactly what to gather
    • an Uploaded Files area (empty so far)
    • an upload zone: Drop files here or click to upload

Drag in any small sample file — a scrap PDF or a photo is fine for the tutorial.

  4. Click Submit for that document. Its status chip changes to Submitted and the progress bar advances. Use Next to step to the following document and repeat. Skip is available only on documents that were not marked Required.

  5. Leave a comment as Jordan. In any document's Comments section, type something like The February bank statement is still with my bookkeeper — everything else attached. and click Send. Your firm account is notified (you enabled the New Comment email in part 1).

  6. When every document is submitted or skipped, a Complete Request button appears at the bottom. Click it to tell the firm the submission is done.

AI summaries of uploads

FileOnion can generate an AI summary and auto-tags for uploaded images (JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, TIFF) and PDFs. These are a firm-side review tool — you will generate one in the next part. Clients never see them.

Checkpoint

The progress bar reads 100%, every document row shows Submitted (or Skipped), and your comment appears on the document. Keep this private window open — Jordan comes back in part 5.
