2. Create a Request with AI
Goal: add Priya Sharma as a client, then let the AI Request Builder draft an I-485 adjustment-of-status document request that you fine-tune and schedule.
Time: ~7 minutes
Add the client
-
Go to Clients in the sidebar and click New.
-
Fill in the client form:
- First name:
Priya— Last name:Sharma - Email: an address you can read (for example
you+priya@example.com) — you will open Priya's email yourself in part 4 - Leave the notification preference on Email. SMS and WhatsApp are also available; they require a phone number.
Company, phone, title, and address are optional. Save the client.
- First name:
Build the request with AI
-
Go to Requests and click New Request. The composer opens with the request form on the left and the AI Request Builder panel docked on the right. If the panel is collapsed, click the AI Request Builder bar to expand it.
-
The panel greets you with "Let's build this request" and a few starter suggestions — including immigration ones like Green card via adjustment of status (I-485) and Naturalization application (N-400). Ignore the suggestions and type your own prompt with enough detail to scope the matter:
I-485 adjustment of status for the spouse of a U.S. citizen. The I-130 petition is already approved. Please recommend the documents to collect from the client.Press Enter to send it.
The agent may ask before it drafts
The builder is conversational. If your prompt is broad, it will ask a scoping question or two first — for example whether the beneficiary is an immediate relative or a preference category, and whether the underlying I-130 is already approved. Answer in the same box and it will draft the list. The prompt above pre-answers both, so it usually drafts straight away.
-
Review the recommendations. Each card shows a document name, a Req/Opt chip, a short description, and a per-document checklist of what the client should include (for the I-485 form, things like "all sections completed with no blanks" and "applicant's signature and date"). Click Add all to request to drop every recommendation into the form, or click Add on individual cards. If the Request Title field was empty, the AI fills it with a drafted title.
You can keep chatting — describe follow-up details in the same panel and add any further recommendations. The agent drafts into the form; you stay in control.
-
Edit the result manually so it is yours:
- Retitle the request if you like — for example
Priya Sharma — I-485 Adjustment of Status. - Remove a recommended document you don't need by clicking its X in the Documents list. Notice the matching card in the AI panel flips back to Add, so you can restore it later.
- Click Add Item in the Documents card header to add a document by hand — for example
Form I-693 Medical Examination. Give it instructions for the client, type checklist entries in Add checklist item and press Enter, and tick Required. - Drag the handle on any document to reorder the list.
- Retitle the request if you like — for example
-
In Recipient, search for and select Priya Sharma. (You can also add a brand-new client from here without leaving the composer.)
-
In Settings:
- Toggle Due date on and pick a date about two weeks out.
- Toggle Reminders on and choose Every 3 days. Frequencies range from every day to once a week.
- Toggle Group files on — files the client uploads will be organized into folders automatically, which pays off in part 6.
- Notice the Auto review toggle here too — it turns AI pre-review of the client's uploads on or off for this request. Leave it on its workspace default for now; part 5 shows what it does at review time. See Auto Review.
Alternative: start from the Template Library
Instead of the AI, you can start from a ready-made template. Go to Templates → Community, pick the Immigration industry segment, and click Save to my templates on a card — it is saved to Requests for your firm in one click. Then create your request from that template in the composer's template picker. See Template Library.
Checkpoint
The composer shows a titled request of type List, several immigration documents each with instructions and a checklist, Priya Sharma as the recipient, a due date, and reminders every 3 days. Nothing has been sent yet.
